      During the Google Summer of Code 2026 we had the pleasure of mentoring Kambham Deepthi Reddy as a student, extending & improving our neuroscience widget ecosystem in the EBRAINS JupyterLab.

      First introduced at the Human Brain Project Summit 2023 in Marseille, our neuroscience widgets for The Virtual Brain continue to see great uptake among researchers, especially with the addition of the Xcircuits visual programming environment running on the Jülich Supercomputing Centre.

      Deepthi did great work after getting herself familiar with Python, JupyterLab, IPyWidgets, React, visualization libraries, and the TVB codebase. She delivered 3 widgets:

      • New entry: BCT Metrics Projection Widget

        compute and visualize Brain Connectivity Toolbox (BCT) metrics on TVB Connectivity data directly within JupyterLab

      • New entry: Unified Head Widget

        combine multiple TVB visualization and connectivity interaction components into a single interface

      • Improvement: Connectivity React Widget

        reworked to address rendering and performance issues caused by handling thousands of connectivity edges as individual SVG elements
